A Mercedes Benz 600 with SUPERCHARGER
This performance project has been under way for about one year, until finally a good 600 candidate in form of a 1972 model seemed to be the right car for this upgrade.
A fresh engine had been installed in this automobile, also the entire interior refurbished in original Mercedes Benz cognac leather accented with a beautiful burl walnut wood trim.
To have a good performance comparison, we took a standards 1970, 600 model on the engine Dyno, and compared the power curve with the 1972 supercharged 600 model.
Here are the test results:
- 1970, 600 Standard Model:
- 196 HP at the rear wheel
- 327 Ft. Lb. torque
- 1972, 600 Supercharged:
- 345 HP at the rear wheel
- 496 Ft. Lb. torque
The result shows a healthy 77% increase in horsepower, and a 51% increase in torque.
We further noticed that with the larger plenum box, the power curve extends for another 1000 RPM.
General Notes
On the stock 6.3 engine the power curve drops at 3500 RPM, with the larger plenum box and supercharged the curve drops at 4500 RPM. The large plenum box, sustaining a more constant vacuum lets the automatic transmission shift smoother.
For best road performance the fuel-air mixture on cruze is set by the on-board computer at 14,7:1. And at full open with the supercharger engaged at 5 Lb. boost, the fuel-air mixture is set at 12:1.
We like to mention a significant driving improvement by installing the oil-filled engine mounts of the Mercedes Benz Type 140. Enging vibrations are gone. Encouraged by the oil-filled engine mount improvement, we also consider to install the transmission mount of a 140 Type MB. An alu driveshaft may come next, to get some weight off the 35 lb. regular driveshaft and its double joint.
