To put that extra power to the ground, the Ford Shelby GT-H will feature the Ford Racing Handling Pack (FR3) including special-tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a strut tower brace - plus a 3.55:1 ratio rear axle assembly for extra off-the-line acceleration. "Any Mustang touched by Caroll Shelby has a head start on becoming a legend, and a highly desirable collectible, but they're all designed to be seen, heard and driven hard" said Cisco Codina, group vice president, Ford North American Marketing, Sales and Service. "That's why demand is so high in our showrooms, and on the auction block." With total production expected to number only 500 units exclusively for Hertz rental fleets, this special-edition Shelby GT-H Mustang convertible will give Hertz customers a truly exclusive driving experience. "This GT-H project was a tremendous success and demand for the sexy pony car let Shelby Autos and Ford to offer a retail version to the public," said Amy Boylan, president, Shelby Automobiles Inc. "Working together with Ford and Hertz, we look forward to creating history with the first Shelby GT-H Mustang convertible. This car will deliver the looks and performance expected of a high-performance Shelby-ized Ford Mustang. It will give Hertz customers the opportunity to enjoy a rare muscle car with real top-down driving excitement." Our confession: 1. We tested the GT-H Mustang at Done Rite Automotive and Ed Casar tweaked another 150 lbs of torque and 65 HP out of the car at low range, raising HP to a respective 384 (see print out below). 2. We had the car detailed, no scratches or dents. Perfect gold stripe. 3. We had 4 new Michelin ZR 235/55 tires installed: our motto - "Make a Good Car Perfect". |
Before and After Tuning Gained 150Ft/lbs @ 1500-2700 RPM + 35 HP High RPM Shelby Mustang GTH cars were originally designed as rental cars for Hertz. The cars had greatly reduced output and lazy throttle response to protect the cars from abuse while they were in the rental fleet. All power and torque increases were a result from custom tuning at Done Rite Automotive Performance. All tuning was performed on a completely stock 2007 Shelby Hertz Mustang GTH. The new tune is safe and non destructive to the engine or driveline. The torque output is much higher, especially at part throttle driving points. Full throttle has a more aggressive shift feel and higher shift points. Downshifts are more aggressive at higher throttle points. The throttle is very crisp and has the feel that you would expect from a sports car. The car functions smooth and flawlessly like a new car should. All tuning was performed on a Superflow all wheel drive Dyno with road speed air blown over the car. The cell is made to duplicate road conditions so the tune is accurate at road and track speeds with the hood closed. The car was even tested and calibrated for top end performance if the car was to see a Road Course or the Autobahn. A gain of 150ft lbs of torque off idle to 2700RPM will really accelerate away from the stop lights. The 35 HP on top end will really keep the speed up on top end. Look at the dyno charts above to see the difference. |
